2021 is taunting us: The glistening, magnetic orange glow beckons us at the end of the long, slow tumultuous tunnel of 2020. The flip of the page to a new calendar year promises good fortune, longevity and a prosperous future, despite the fuzzy haze that sits before us for the next few months.

Defining desirable, attainable goals starts with knowing who you are and where you want to be. Unclear core values or mission statements – both in business and our personal lives – lead to an undisclosed path at an unknown place. Clarity in your core values and mission statement will keep you on course so that we can continue to adapt with the ever-changing environment, no matter what lies ahead.

Take 15 minutes or less to ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Personal happiness:
    1. I am at my best when…
    2. I am at my worst when…
  2. Meaningful relationships:
    1. Three of the most important things in my life are…
    2. They are important to me because…
  3. What are three words or values that make you feel like yourself?
    1. Here are links to help:
      1. Brene Brown’s
      2. Stephen Covey’s
  4. Who are three people in your life you admire and why?
    1. Be sure to specify how they have influenced you.

Grab a coffee with yourself and keep it simple. Write it down in a place you can reference throughout the entirety of 2021. Think fast and intuitively, and just write things down. It’s for you to see. There is no right or wrong but there is not done.

Remember: These four prompts help you show up for yourself even when you don’t think you can. When we have clarity on what or who is important, choices, goals and plans become much easier to implement because the reasons why are in the fore view.

Consistency breeds results more than perfection ever can. The 10,000-hour rule has proven that. It doesn’t have to be perfect every time, you just have to keep showing up!

If you’re not there yet and you just want to think back on 2020, here are some pretty awesome statistics from our Core People who make our community so special:
