Harpooners:
We had a wildly fun and successful Teenage Girl Fitness Workshop this weekend. Thanks to Bella and Stephen for helping us pull off such a great event! If you have Teenage boys, no matter if they’re a part of our Youth Program or not, we’re hosting a similar event Jan. 23. More details below.
In this week’s email, we’re implementing our core values and missions statements into daily/weekly life. Our goal here is to help you APPLY a plan for being able to tackle your resolutions in a way that creates long-term habits for a sustainable lifestyle.
In keeping these emails short enough to be easy to consume, I’m sharing one productivity hack this week, the concept of Eat The Frog, and I’ll follow up next week with my favorite framework for allocating my time, The Eisenhower Matrix.
Keep both of these tools in your arsenal for overall productivity and alignment. They aren’t a perfect science but they can help you be more efficient in maintaining focus and staying on course.
The concept of Eat the Frog came up this weekend in our teenage girls’ workshop and it’s one of my favorite concepts to remind myself when I “don’t feel like doing something.” The overarching concept is simple: Tackle the hardest thing of the day FIRST. This can apply to creating new habits, getting into a more consistent workout routine or even doing the THING you don’t WANT to do but know you need to.
By eating the frog first thing in the morning, we get the hardest, most fulfilling task out of the way instead of letting it loom over our heads.
You can view this in two ways:
- Do the thing that requires the most amount of effort or motivation
OR
- Do the thing that aligns most directly with your core values
I often choose to align it with my core values because I’m happiest when I’m most in alignment with SELF.
Decision fatigue is a real thing, and if we are someone who sits in a management position (this includes you Moms and Dads!), we get to the end of the day, and we just don’t have enough energy anymore to do the thing we were sure we were going to do today. Oftentimes, that’s why our morning class times are so full! Those are our people who know they need to do it, but if they wait any longer in their day, too many tasks, chores or priorities come before their workout time. They simply come in and get it done so it’s a nonissue the rest of the day!
If we are applying this to more of the alignment perspective, we are already “Happy” because we have already done the thing that makes our heart feel full.
What’s your frog today? Does this resonate with you or is it too abstract?
