Harpooners:
Happy Monday. Great job showing up today for a HARD workout on a very cold day after the Super Bowl.
Mondays are a great day to kick start the week, no matter how much fun we have on the weekends, and weekend fun is a great segway into the topic I want to cover this week in Mondays with Maddie.
Today is a perfect day to talk about the concept of doing “something rather than nothing.”
Life gets busy. It gets hard, and no one is without their challenges. But on the days that we just don’t feel like we can do it, I urge you to dig deeper and DO SOMETHING. I mean this is the best way. Something for you, on any day, might be showing up and going through the motions in the workout. It might mean doing mobility during the skill instead of skipping the gym entirely. It also might just mean going for a walk instead of taking class. All things are respectable and all things have their place. Anything you choose to do might be the most you have for that given day, and that’s ok.
The point is to lean into the concept that we are focusing on what WE CAN DO. It might not be your A+ effort, but it might be an effort that’s way better than surfing the couch like your mind wanted.
We can apply this concept to workouts, sure, but also nutrition: I’m going to start by cleaning up ONE meal throughout the week (aka lunches) and stick to that before I buy the next best nutrition coach and jump headfirst into another diet.
We can apply it to work: I chipped away at small tasks today to keep the needle moving instead of calling in sick and getting further behind.
We can apply this concept to consistency: I spent time outside more times than I did last week.
Our mind wants to focus on the things we didn’t do. But let’s, instead, focus on what we have done or are doing, and lean into the progress we are making over the long trajectory ahead.
Perspective matters.
Mindset matters.
Stay focused, and be kind to yourself.
