Welcome back from February Vacation Week! The days are getting longer and we are closer to an amazing summer ahead! Our leadership team is in the trenches preparing for a FUN and entertaining Summer 2021.

As we get into this week’s email, I am going to keep my message short as we have a lot of “Need to Knows.” Please take a minute to scan through the bullets below to keep yourself apprised of all the great things we have going on.

Last tidbit this month regarding “Mindset” specifically: I want to talk about the concept of language, both to ourselves (self talk) as well as to others. How you talk to yourself and others can deeply impact relationships, performance and confidence. Focusing our internal dialogue with a better set of skills will yield higher performance and better relationships.

Do you talk yourself down in the middle of a workout? Do you tell yourself you suck? That you don’t have the skills?

Do you tell yourself that you’re “not like them” or even more, do you talk trash about the other person next to you who is crushing it?

The best thing you can do in times of “stress” (think: workout or real life) is to talk to yourself just like you’d be talking to your best friend. You might not sugarcoat feedback, you might provide room for improvement, but you would never tell then they aren’t good enough or that they aren’t taking the right steps to improve. Do that internally as well. Focus on what you ARE doing: how you’re working toward a better self, making small changes toward weight loss, or doing better in life at home.

The best place to “practice” this is in the middle of your workouts: You get into a high heart rate zone, aren’t thinking clearly and are maybe making a few mistakes. So what do you say to yourself then? That’s where we can improve self-talk, in a super isolated hour of our day where we can transfer this skill to our “regular” life.
