Harpooners:
I cannot believe we are wrapping up April of 2021. Just think, one year ago, we were hunkered down in our houses, chipping through Harpoon at Home workouts, wishing for one loosened restriction to be able to start working out outside together again.
We have come so far in the past 365 days, and we are still rolling with the punches. Today we started and welcomed 8 new people (12 in total, but 4 of Veterans!) in our Bootcamps with Coach Josh. We are also in the final stages of negotiating a stellar new Head Coach, which gets ME super excited about the future of Harpoon. I’ll formally introduce you in the coming weeks when I feel like it’s most appropriate, but he and his family are going to add a lot of amazing energy and perspective to the greatness we already have going!
As we anchor to all the wonderful things we have accomplished in the past 365 days and/or past 8 years, I continue to remind myself to always be open to new ideas, or put simply, Maintain a Beginner’s Mindset.
I don’t know it all, and I certainly don’t pretend to: And as I watch new members or new coaches start in our place where we are so comfortable, I’m reminded how a fresh perspective can help bring new life and a renewed sense of energy to what we do in and day out. It also reminds me how intimidating any fitness experience can be!
So my prompt for you this week is: Are you applying a fresh lens to the activities you do daily? Weekly? Even nightly? Do you approach “The Snatch” with the idea that you have more to learn? Do you enter Zoom calls “knowing” what’s going to be covered or are you listening with full awareness? Are you searching for more resources? More feedback? More ways to grow? Are you half listening to your partners or friends, assuming it’s the same old story or are you intently hearing? Are you protective to what you’re doing or are you open to feedback?
When we continue to revisit our Core Values, it gives us a great place to focus on where to look for new perspectives. Things that are important to us are also sometimes the place we stay stuck in a routine, whereas those places are the most important areas to refocus and level up. Complacency, on the other hand, can make things stale, boring and sometimes “no longer worth it.”
What are you doing today to help yourself continue to learn and to analyze what you’re doing as if you’re a beginner all over again?
Things you need to know:
- May 31: Memorial Day Murph 6:30am, 7:45am & 9:00am classes only. If you plan on doing Murph, please do your best to make it to pull up and push up days in the coming weeks to build up your volume. Josh will also be writing additional workouts to supplement your weekly work, AND this Saturday is a great prep piece!
- Parking: Parking is likely going to be tight in the coming months. You’ve probably noticed the coaches parking near the basketball court to provide more spaces out front for you all. If you can’t find a place to park, please come join us down behind the basketball court. We’re asking you all to park with your noses facing Hales/Hawks when in the back and/or facing the basketball court. Your tailgates should be facing one another. I’ll demo with my car in the coming days so you can see an example.
- The Family Room: The Room is going to be the place where Bootcamp equipment is stored. You can still workout back there if needed, but there won’t be as much room as we need a place to store all the equipment as well.
- Remember: If class is full, there’s always a GREAT workout outside! Mixing it up might surprise you!
- The Spring Apparel Pre-Order is in the design phase and we will have pre-order sheets available soon.
- Mike & Kristen Corrao welcomed their second baby girl, Kinslee, into the world on April 24. Everyone is happy, healthy and sleep deprived already! Thank you all so much for helping them out with the lovely MealTrain.
