Harpooners!

What a fun day to see so many of you overcome mental obstacles that you didn’t think you could with “Jerry” today. I heard a few “I hate this place,” “I hate you” and “There’s no way,” but how many of you did MORE today than you even thought possible?

Days like today, and this weekend, remind me of how important surrounding yourself with the RIGHT people—motivated, positive, hard-working people—brings out more in yourself than you can even dream possible. When you surround yourself with people who lift you up, who push you just enough, and remind you that you are more capable than you believe, you can achieve great things.

I witnessed this just tonight, watching Kiley run with some of the boys. She doubted she could even run a mile, let alone finish under the time cap. But guess what, she sat on the heels of Stephen & Caelin, and ran the fastest mile she’s ever done, let alone finished well under the time cap!

Scenarios like this is why I’m so excited to officially announce the start date for Nathan, the Director of Operations and Head of Staffing. Nathan will be taking over some of the classes starting Tuesday, June 1, but more importantly is going to bring boundless energy, experience and humor to our already amazing existence.

I’m incredibly eager to bring him aboard to support our Leadership staff, lead the overall vision for our programming and guide our growth over the next stages of Harpoon. For those of you who don’t know, Nathan was the owner of a CrossFit affiliate in North Berwick since 2013. In the height of COVID, he and his wife shut their brick and mortar and doubled down on personal training with their brand, Balata Training. I’ve somehow convinced him to bring all that wonderfulness into the walls of Harpoon.

For several weeks, Nathan and I have been working behind the scenes to merge the Balata methodologies with Harpoon’s Core Values. In an effort to show you what he’s all about, for the month of June, all current Harpoon members are going to get FREE ACCESS to his additional programs in SugarWOD. In the coming days, you’ll see new tracks in the SugarWOD app, with specialty areas to enhance some of the individual goals that you all have.

Here’s a quick, but not exhaustive, list of what’s to come:

  • Thrive Harpoon at Home: an enhanced and slightly different approach to our at-home program that only requires a pair of dumbbells and a good attitude
  • SecondWind: a running-specific training program to add a better focus to your miles
  • AirWolf: a machine-specific cardio program to help build your aerobic base
  • StoneYeti: a strength-based, barbell program sure to get you strong
  • Balata Personal Training: completely personalized programming to help you achieve a specific goal or close a specific weakness (this one won’t be in SugarWOD/free for obvious reasons)

This is such an exciting time for us, and we’re more than thrilled for you all to officially meet him! Our Leadership Staff has done a great job keeping it all together and hustling to keep the schedule chugging along, and now we are excited to bring it all to the next level.
