Holy Summer Heat Harpooners!
We are off to the races with high humidity and wicked heat. It feels like the height of August and we are only getting started. Please remember to drink lots of fluids and electrolytes (ahem, Nuun) and bring a personal towel to help you stay moving during these times of intense heat.
I don’t know about you, but extreme heat makes my “large brain” creative tasks harder to tackle. Bella probably knows specifically why this happens, but we will leave the science to her, and I’ll focus more on habits that keep me motivated during times of procrastination.
When we get hit with an ever-growing to-do list, just starting can sometimes be so overwhelming that we do everything else before actually doing the BIG task we need to. When an important presentation is due, we will do everything we can to avoid tackling the project head on. We do the laundry, and clean the dishes, organize our sock drawer, steam mop the guest bedroom, all to just to avoid the hardest task of just starting the BIG THING.
This can apply to so many things throughout our greater life: fitness, new eating habits, journaling, saving money, etc. Aside from the idea of doing Big Brain Tasks (Or Eating the Frog) during the first parts of our day, another way we can implement momentum is to apply this rule: start for five minutes and see where it gets you. A really corny way to say this might be, AMRAP 5 and see what you score you can get.
I mean really focus your energy. I’m talking about undivided get-stuff-done mode for a specified domain. Set a timer. When the timer goes off, where are you at? Are you now in the zone and there’s no turning back? Oftentimes, that 5-minute primer is like a really good warm-up that flows right into the conditioning piece for the day. I probably took that too far but you get the idea.
Where can you apply this in your regular life? I’m working on something BIG right now, and I can’t wait to share it with you. BRB after I go organize the pillow cases… 😉
